Royal opening of 300 bed Conference Centre
The £5m centre is set in extensive grounds which include a 40 acre lake. The building can accommodate 300 residents and consists of function rooms, a large dining hall, kitchen, lounges and three bedroom wings. Adventure activities include High Ropes, Abseiling Towers and Canoeing.
The centre was officially opened on 14th May 2013 by His Royal Highness The Duke of Gloucester.
BCAL were appointed as civil and structural designers. The superstructure is a glue laminated timber framed supported by traditional foundations although extensive ground improvement was necessary as the site was a previously backfilled gravel quarry.
The ground had to be built up to ensure the building was out of the flood plain.
