Development of 102 acres of land at Wilby Way, Wellingborough was enabled by a major improvement of the existing A45 roundabout.
BCAL’s role was to design, procure and supervise the construction works for the roundabout and commercial access roads.
Project management services were provided to the client, to co-ordinate all individual developments as the overall scheme evolved from planning and land sales through to construction for housing, hotel, public house, fast food outlet and day nursery.
Extensive use of PDS highway/ground modelling computer software was used to ensure a cost effective scheme which minimised disruption to existing carriageways while maintaining a through route for 20,000 vehicles a day.
Prior to construction works, it was necessary to undertake archaeological investigations to record and establish the extent of an Iron Age Settlement spanning a period of 200-400BC. 20,000 cubic metres of surplus material from the 7m deep cutting were used to cover and preserve archaeological remains that were not investigated.
Approvals were gained from Northamptonshire County Council for Section 38 and 278 highway works and from Anglian Water for Section 104 drainage works.
