The new £11m building was constructed next to the existing police station and once completed the existing building was then refurbished.
Continuous flight auger piles support the four storey steel framed building. “Slimflor” beams were used to enable a shallow depth of construction and to allow in floor air circulation and cooling.
The fully glazed façade is protected by a four storey high brise soleil on the southern elevation which is set back to enable vehicular access to the detainee alighting area and the 24 holding cells.
Extensive enabling works were required including demolition of existing buildings and diversion of the underground drainage systems.
