An integral element of the shoe making process for ‘Dr Martens’ is provided by the 5400 square metres of Warehousing at Nene Park.
Leather Storage and Distribution Facilities are contained within the two linked storage units fronted by Inspection Areas, Offices and Welfare Accommodation.
A series of structural challenges confronted BCAL’s Design Team.
- Poor ground conditions, partly contaminated by an old leather tanning works, required the foundations and floor slab to be piled. 393 no. Vibro Compaction Concrete Piles and 22 no. Continuous Flight Auger Piles were used.
- The dimensional qualities of the clients racking scheme were critical in creating the span, height and envelope of the warehouse.
- Loading docks with levellers, large areas of hardstanding and re-use of contaminated excavated material presented interesting challenges and solutions.
BCAL were responsible for the full design service and the project was completed to programme and within budget.
