The £5m centre is set in extensive grounds which include a 40 acre lake. The building can accommodate 300 residents and consists of function rooms, a large dining hall, kitchen, lounges and three bedroom wings. Adventure activities include high ropes, abseiling towers and canoeing.
BCAL were appointed as civil and structural designers. The superstructure is a glue laminated timber framed supported by traditional foundations although extensive ground improvement was necessary as the site was a previously backfilled gravel quarry.
The ground had to be built up to ensure the building was out of the flood plain.
